The Southern California-raised forward has represented Puerto Rico on the international stage and competed professionally in Mexico. Along the way, Rodriguez has turned the game into a way to connect with her roots and help grow women's soccer on the island.
Skylynn "Sky" Rodriguez grew up in Southern California in a family where sports were a constant. At Newport Harbor High School, the forward established herself as a prolific scorer. She finished her four-year career with 63 goals and 93 assists, earned All-League honors every season and was named Player of the Year as both a junior and senior. She went on to begin her college career at Long Beach State before continuing at Cal State LA.
College also brought Rodriguez an opportunity that would reshape her relationship with the game and her heritage. Raised with both Mexican and Puerto Rican roots, Rodriguez has spoken about growing up feeling more connected to her Mexican side. Joining the Puerto Rico Women's National Team gave her the chance to build a stronger relationship with Puerto Rico through soccer, its people and the culture surrounding the sport on the island.
That connection soon became part of her career. Rodriguez earned a place on Puerto Rico's roster for the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup, where the team competed in its first major Concacaf senior women's tournament. She appeared during the competition as part of a Puerto Rican squad taking an important step forward on the regional stage.
Her career also carried her into the professional game. Rodriguez signed with Cruz Azul Femenil in Mexico, giving her the opportunity to compete in Liga MX Femenil and continue developing as a forward beyond college soccer.
Through each chapter, Puerto Rico has remained central to her journey. Rodriguez has continued speaking about the growth of soccer on the island and using her platform to share the culture surrounding the national team with a wider audience.
