Mireya Gutierrez:From the Court to the Mat: Mireya Gutierrez Brings Pilates Full Circle in Denver

Before Mireya Gutierrez ever thought about Pilates, she thought about basketball. Growing up Mexican-American in a small Colorado town, she laced up at just five years old, and the court became the place where she first found confidence, discipline, and friendship. That early love of movement never really left her; it just found a new form.

Today, Gutierrez is the founder of Alura Pilates, a Latina-owned wellness brand born from a simple but powerful idea: that movement and culture don't have to live in separate spaces. As a certified Mat Pilates instructor in Denver, she set out to make Pilates feel welcoming for women in the Latino community, teaching in both Spanish and English, and often in the Spanglish that reflects how she and so many of her clients actually speak.

Now Gutierrez is preparing for what she calls a full-circle moment: hosting a Pilates experience on the Denver Nuggets' court at Ball Arena. It's the same sport that shaped her as a little girl, revisited years later as a Latina entrepreneur bringing her community along with her, not performing alone, but inviting other women into the experience.

For Gutierrez, representation is the heart of it. She wants Latinas to see wellness as something that belongs to them too, and she wants little girls from small towns to know that where they start doesn't limit where they can go. As she sees it, this moment isn't an ending point; it's just the beginning.
