Tatiana Calderón arrived at the NASCAR Brasil weekend in Curvelo still searching for her first victory in the series. She left with three trophies, a place in the playoffs and her name in the history books.
The Colombian driver became the first woman to win an overall NASCAR Brasil race after taking the checkered flag at the Circuito dos Cristais oval in Curvelo.
Calderón opened the weekend by climbing from 15th to fourth overall and second in the Challenge class. In the second race, she started third, took control of the lead and held off Felipe Malinowski through the final laps to secure the historic victory.
After 57 laps, Calderón crossed the finish line just 0.527 seconds ahead of Malinowski, proving she could compete with and beat the strongest drivers in the field.
The victory adds another milestone to Calderón’s international career, which has included Formula 2, IndyCar, Super Formula and a role as a Formula One test driver.
Her performance also secured the final available place in the NASCAR Brasil playoffs, where she will race for the championship across the final rounds in Chapecó and Brasília.
Calderón began the weekend 15th on the grid. She ended it where no woman in NASCAR Brasil history had stood before: first.
